Program for Child Aid Cansanção for the first year in 10 main points:

1. Child Aid is introduced to all people in the area. 8 local Area Leaders are contracted. They organize 3.000 families in Village Action Groups. Each Area Leader enrols 375 families in the 10 Village Action Groups in his area. The VAG's choose each 2 coordinators and the families are eager to start the program.

2. The Area Leaders train the coordinators of the Village Action Groups. The Village Action Groups start their work. Every week the families meet at the same place and time and the coordinators do capacity building based on the Child Aid Manual. The families take action according to the lessons learnt.

 3. Committees working with specific issues in the community are formed.Two members of each VAG join forces with 2 members of the other 9 VAG's in the same area. The Water and Sanitation and Health Committee (WASHE) works with water, sanitation and health issues. The Agricultural Committee works with the development of agriculture in the area. The Child Care Committee works with the children in situations of risk and the Education Committee works with the quality of the education and that all children attend school. Before the 15th of January the committees have met and made their priorities and action plans.

4. Basic sanitation is one of the first priorities of the project. Only few families have toilets. The WASHE committees will mobilize the people to go together and build latrines. The project will help with cement.

 5. People depend of their income from agricultural production. The Agricultural Committees have a very important role to improve the traditional crops and will introduce new crops. Capacity courses are organized for the small farmers, together the small farmers will make test plots, good examples will be evaluated and introduced among the farmers etc.

6. The Child Care Committees will register all the children in risk. There are families with many children, the single mother families, the teenage girl with children, the families where the parents do not look after the children. The Child Care Committee will work with those families and children to improve their conditions.

7. The Education Committees work with getting all children to school and assist the schools to solve their problems. This includes transport of the students, improve the material conditions, improve the meal supplied by the school. They will establish pre-schools where these are missing.

8. The Project Leader makes the project well known in the area. The local radio station and press are always informed, invited and write positively about the project. The project gets well known for its results.
